Gator Material Studio 1.2.1

Designer Patterns and Generators

  • Fixed Brick Generator mortar thickness changing as row count increased.
  • Improved Advanced Pattern Brick generation and staggered masonry behavior.
  • Fixed Advanced Pattern Tile so it produces a distinct aligned tile/grid pattern.
  • Fixed Polygon and Star patterns occasionally rendering as solid white.
  • Added safeguards for extreme X/Y count differences that could cause generated patterns to disappear.
  • Fixed centered and non-repeating patterns being incorrectly shifted by Seed values.

Procedural Noise

  • Fixed Advanced Noise cases that could produce blank white output.
  • Improved Spots, Dirt and Blue Noise generation to reduce visible grid and hash artifacts.
  • Improved Blue Noise to reduce square lattice patterns and visible simplex-edge artifacts.
  • Improved distinction between several procedural noise types.
  • Fixed Moisture Noise so Octaves and Roughness correctly affect the result.
  • Fixed Cells and Crystal Mode controls so available modes produce distinct results.
  • Reduced unnecessary shader recompilation when adjusting common noise parameters.
  • Scale, Roughness, Octaves and Seed can now update without repeatedly creating new rendering pipelines on supported noise nodes.

Splatter, Scatter and FX-Map

  • Increased Splatter Count support to 256.
  • Increased Shape Splatter v2 Count support to 256.
  • Increased Scatter Splines on Splines Count support to 128.
  • Increased FX-Map Iterations support to 8.
  • Fixed Shape Splatter v2 X/Y flip controls.
  • Fixed Shape Splatter v2 Mapping behavior.
  • Fixed Shape Splatter v2 grid scattering being limited to an 8×8 layout.
  • Added functional Collision Padding support to Shape Splatter v2.
  • Improved Shape Splatter v2 ID Data so generated instances receive stable IDs.

Filters and Adjustments

  • Fixed Radial Blur Amount = 0 so it produces a neutral result.
  • Improved handling of zero-width procedural ranges.
  • Fixed Advanced Adjustment Histogram Range and HDR Range behavior with identical or reversed range values.

SDF and Material Data

  • Improved preservation of SDF metadata through operators and transform nodes.
  • Fixed Material and Material ID being treated as equivalent metadata in some operations.
  • Fixed the 3D Viewer Material ID channel using the incorrect data source.
  • Improved SDF metadata propagation throughout Designer graphs.

Designer Node Behavior

  • Corrected several options that previously produced identical behavior:
  • 3D SDF Transform: Offset and Position Offset
  • 3D SDF Transform: Rotate and Rotate Position
  • 3D SDF Transform: Mirror and Symmetry
  • Path Process: Vertex Processor and Vertex Processor Simple

[/*][*]

Mirror now performs left/right mirroring.

[/*][*]

Symmetry now performs both horizontal and vertical symmetry.

[/*][*]

Fixed output-port validation across supported Designer output ports.

[/*][*]

Removed the previous restrictive Text node character limit.

[/*]

Material Output

  • Corrected outdated Material Output channel names:
  • Sheen → Rim
  • Sheen Tint → Rim Tint
  • Subsurface → Subsurf Scatter

[/*]

Designer Graph Reliability

  • Improved .gmsmat save reliability with safer transactional saving.
  • Unknown or unsupported node types are no longer silently removed when loading a graph.
  • Incompatible nodes now produce a clear compatibility error instead of modifying the graph without warning.
  • Graph cycles are now rejected when connections are created.
  • Improved general graph validation and compatibility handling.

Designer Node Library Cleanup

  • Removed duplicate entries from the visible Designer node library.
  • Existing registrations remain available internally to preserve compatibility with older projects.
  • Nodes with genuinely different behavior remain available even when they share related implementations.

Designer Preview Performance

  • Improved preview scheduling during continuous parameter editing.
  • Continuous slider adjustments now refresh previews at a controlled rate instead of repeatedly postponing updates.
  • Reduced unnecessary graph_changed processing during extended parameter adjustments.
  • Runtime-updatable parameters retain responsive live feedback.
  • Recompile-required parameters are rate-limited to reduce unnecessary work.
  • Structural graph changes continue to use normal debounce behavior.
  • Reduced unnecessary CPU and UI overhead while editing Designer materials.
  • Material appearance and normal workflow remain unchanged.

RTX 50-Series / Blackwell Preview Improvements

  • Further optimized the texture-backed Designer 3D preview path used to reduce stalls on newer NVIDIA GPUs.
  • Reduced redundant shader, texture and material rebinding.
  • Avoided unnecessary preview property updates when values have not changed.
  • Existing material channels can reuse previously created shaders and rendering pipelines where possible.
  • Reduced repeated Canvas pipeline compilation during procedural material editing.
  • Improved handling of noise parameters that previously caused unnecessary shader regeneration.
  • Added additional rendering diagnostics to help identify GPU and driver-specific preview stalls.
  • These changes also improve preview efficiency on older supported GPUs.

Compatibility

Gator Material Studio 1.2.1 is a corrective update focused on Designer correctness, reliability and performance. Existing projects, materials, saved graphs and normal workflows remain compatible with 1.2.0.
