1.0.8.0 Update: Desktop Styles, Status Bar and Themes

SnowDesktop 1.0.8.0 is now available.

This update adds desktop layouts, a status bar, and a theme library, alongside expanded quick search, application categories, and schedule management.

Desktop layouts and status bar

  • Added Desktop Style presets for customizing the Windows taskbar, combining a Dock with the taskbar, pairing a bottom Dock with a top status bar, using a merged bottom bar, or placing the Dock at the side. Review the affected settings before applying a layout and choose recommended animations separately.
  • Added a status bar with top or bottom placement, monitor selection, and scaling. It can display the date, time, system tray, input method, CPU, memory, GPU, and network traffic.
  • The status bar includes calendar, control center, and resource detail panels. View schedules and resource charts, adjust volume and brightness, inspect network and Bluetooth devices, and control media playback. Available controls depend on device capabilities.
  • The Dock and status bar can merge when placed along the same edge. Control center shortcuts support visibility and ordering, with options such as keeping the computer awake for a set duration.

Themes and appearance

  • Added a theme library to save, apply, and manage global appearance, or save separate appearance settings for the Dock, status bar, taskbar, quick panel, and popups.
  • Themes support previews, import, and export. The Steam edition adds theme Workshop sharing and subscription installation. Local and Workshop versions of the same theme can be selected from its management card.
  • Added transparent glass and light and dark acrylic appearance options, with controls for borders, highlights, and opacity. The quick panel provides more detailed layout and color settings.
  • Added interface font selection and search, including MiSans, HarmonyOS Sans, and fonts installed on your computer. Choose ellipsis or clipping for overflowing titles.

Quick navigation and desktop organization

  • Quick navigation adds search by type for applications, files, SnowDesktop settings, web searches, commands, and calculations. Customize search prefixes, web engines, and the default engine. Press Enter to copy a calculation result.
  • Expand or collapse quick navigation with Ctrl+E. File search continues to support Everything.
  • File groups and collections add an option to collect programs, with application shortcut categories, merged category rules, category tab ordering, and search in Dock category popups. Converting an empty group retains its position and size.
  • Desktop pages can be named, renamed, and deleted, with an option to move their contents when deleting a page.
  • Large icons, available through advanced features, add rounded squares, circles, swallowtail flags, and an optional regular hexagon. Shape outlines and grid footprint hints can be viewed together while resizing.

Schedules and widgets

  • Schedules support multiple dates and weekly or monthly recurrence, with editing for an entire series or one occurrence. The calendar adds switching between Gregorian and additional calendars, and the schedule widget supports series management.
  • The ToDo List adds repeated creation with Enter, drag ordering, and manual or automatic priority sorting.
  • The System Monitor widget supports GPU selection, individual card sizes and ordering, and main text size adjustment.
  • Development widgets can be exported as standalone installation packages for backup and sharing.
