📢EASY/HARD MODE UPDATE & BUG FIXES

A week ago we shipped the biggest update DinoBones had ever had. Then we kept reading your reports, and two of them hit hard: players who had tidied the whole museum, opened their Steam profile, and found zero achievements. Not one. We found out why, and this update makes sure it never happens again. Along the way, we also built the thing most of you asked for: more than one save.

🦴 Play it your way: anatomical mode

  • When you start a new game you pick three gameplay rules and see a difficulty estimate. They belong to that save and can be changed in game under Settings › Gameplay.
  • Free order mode (on by default): place bones in any order, as before. Turn it off for anatomical mode: spine first, then the rest. The right slot still lights up blue for a bone whose turn has not come; try to place it and the bone drops while the part you need to finish first pulses purple.
  • Proximity hint: the hologram changes colour as you get closer to the right spot. Switch it off and it stays gray, so your eyes do the work.
  • Expertise window: the small skeleton at the top right. The Z key still hides it any time.

🏆 Your achievements, guaranteed

  • If achievements never unlocked for you, just start the game once. From the splash screen on, the game checks your save against your Steam profile and adds every achievement you have earned, while you are still in the main menu. A small "Missing achievements updated." notice tells you how many. No need to press Continue.
  • Why it happened: some Steam clients had not updated in a while, and our game asked them for a newer Steam than they had. The game kept running, but it could not talk to Steam, so achievements were earned and then lost on exit. DinoBones now works with any Steam client from May 2024 onward.
  • Belt and braces: every achievement is now written to disk the instant you earn it. If Steam is unreachable, it waits in your save folder and is handed over the moment the game connects again.
  • If you found the secret camera during one of those disconnected sessions, you also get the two photo achievements. We cannot check the photos you took back then, so you get the benefit of the doubt.
  • Your save now goes to the right Steam account folder even when the game cannot connect to Steam, so the next connected launch has nothing to ask you.

💾 Three save slots

  • Continue and New Game now open a slot list: the save's name, time played, museum progress, last played and created dates. Your existing save becomes slot 1 on its own; nothing is moved or deleted.
  • Rename a slot, delete a slot, start a fresh museum next to your finished one. On Steam Deck the on-screen keyboard opens when you name a save.
  • Auto-save now writes in the background. The short freeze every ten minutes is much shorter.

🪙 Finding the last coins

  • Walk within two meters of an untouched souvenir coin and it glints; walk away and it goes quiet. Once 80% of your achievements are unlocked, coins glint from anywhere, as before.

🖥️ Ultrawide and Steam

  • 32:9 and 21:9 monitors: the "Display" option now uses your monitor's true native resolution. If you had picked a 16:9 resolution on such a monitor, the game may open once at native resolution; pick yours again under Settings › Video.
  • Starting the game from a shortcut no longer closes it: it connects to Steam in place. If your Steam app is out of date, the main menu now tells you.

To everyone who wrote to us about stuck achievements: thank you for the reports, and sorry it took this long. Start the game, watch the main menu, and tell us if anything is still missing. The Report button in the pause menu reaches us directly.
