Sealed sections, a smarter monster and a flashlight battery

Hunter and Escape the Monster

The maze is now split into sections. The passages between them are blocked, and you have to clear a blockage to get through. You can clear a block slowly or quickly. Going slow is quiet. Going fast is loud, and the monster can hear it from a lot farther away. So you have to decide if you have time to be careful. To help the monster get around while you are looking for a way through, there are now monster gateways. These are heavy debris paths that only the monster can use. The monster slows down while going through one, so they are a shortcut, not a free pass.

The monster

The Hunter now has a real attack. Walking into a player no longer takes them out, you have to actually hit them. The CPU monster got a big rework and now plays a lot more like a person would:

  • It roars to get a rough idea of where you are, then listens for your footsteps and your voice and follows any trail you leave.
  • If you outrun it during a chase, it uses its sense ability to try to find you from farther away.
  • If it loses you, it guesses which way you went and searches for a while before going back to roaming the maze.
  • It can now follow you into crawl tunnels and vents. If it sees you go in, or picks you up with a roar, it will come in after you.

Crawl spaces are not a safe hiding spot anymore.

Flashlight battery

Your flashlight has a battery now. A full charge lasts 30 seconds. When it runs out, hold F to crank it back up.

Cranking makes noise and the monster can hear it, so pick your moment.

Escape the Flood

The flood maps were redesigned. They are denser, with more loops and more dead ends, so picking the right way matters more.

Parts of the map can now collapse during the climb. The way you came in might not be there when you turn around.

HUD

The battery, stamina, flare and interact displays have all been updated so they are easier to read.
