New Free update and an extra theme
🌸 Update 0.0.2: happier saving, comfier writing, and a shark
Thank you so much to everyone who has been writing in their diary and sending notes about it. Almost everything in this update came straight from your messages. Here is what is new and what got fixed.
🦈 A new theme: NomShark
The eighteenth theme, and the liveliest one yet. It is a whole column of ocean: sunlit turquoise at the surface falling away into deep blue, with sunbeams swaying overhead, ripples of light drifting across the water and bubbles rising past your pages.
- Sharks glide by at three different depths, rising and dipping as they go. One of them swims the other way.
- Little fish school past near the surface, and a lone one wanders through the deep.
- A shark buddy lives in the corner and keeps you company while you write. See below.
- Everything settles the moment you turn on calm mode, if you would rather write in still water.
Named after Nom Nom Shark, the player whose review kicked off this whole update. The shark was drawn to match a sketch he sent, right down to the smile.
🐟 Your shark buddy
A small friendly shark now drifts in the corner of the screen whenever NomShark is on. It is only there to keep you company, and it can never get in your way or block anything you click.
- It bobs quietly in place, and every so often swims across to the other corner, wagging its tail and trailing bubbles.
- Left to itself it gets bored and plays: a loop the loop, a happy shimmy, a duck below the edge of the screen, or a puff of bubbles for no reason at all.
- Bring your cursor near and it perks up. Click the water beside it and it does a delighted barrel roll.
- Leave your diary alone for a while and it falls asleep, drifting slowly with little 💤 rising. It wakes up with a wiggle the moment you come back.
✨ New things
- Save whenever you like Press Ctrl+S, or click the little save text in the top corner of your page, and it is written straight away. Your place in the text is kept, so you can carry on typing without missing a beat.
- Find inside an entry Press Ctrl+F and search the page you are on. Every match lights up, and Enter hops you to the next one. Very handy for long entries and for anyone bringing older journals across.
- Jump straight to a day There is a little date picker above the calendar now. Pick a date and you land on that day right away, whether the entry already exists or you are starting it.
- The slash menu Type / anywhere in your page to drop in headings, bullet lists, numbered lists, checkboxes, quotes, dividers, images, stickers, doodles and templates. Type a few letters to filter, then press Enter.
- Stickers and photos go anywhere Drag a picture and it stays exactly where you place it. Your arrangement is kept in the page, in the reading view and in your PDF export.
- Tab indents your paragraphs No more holding the space bar. Shift+Tab takes the indent back off, and Tab still nests list items the way it always did.
- Links from the keyboard Ctrl+Shift+K adds a link to whatever you have selected, and a bare address like example.com gets its https:// added for you.
- Kinder pasting Text pasted in from a website or another journal now wears your theme instead of arriving in someone else's font, size and colours. Ctrl+Shift+V pastes plain text, and copying inside your diary keeps your formatting exactly as it was.
- Ctrl+P sends the page to PDF Same lovely export, now on the shortcut you already know.
🩹 Fixes
- Saving is dependable now. If you like keeping one entry per day and adding to it as the day goes on, that works properly. No more copying your text, closing the app and pasting it back in.
- Nothing is lost while a save is in progress. Words typed during a save used to slip away quietly. Every keystroke reaches your diary now, and if a save ever does not go through, your text stays safe on the page and it tries again.
- Locking keeps your words. Locking your diary in the middle of a sentence now writes what you have so far before it closes up.
- Auto lock behaves itself. It leaves you alone while you are writing and locks once you have genuinely stepped away.
- New entries accept typing immediately. The first line is ready for you the moment the page opens, so that stuck feeling after making a fresh journal is gone.
- Selector icons sit properly centred when they are switched on, in the mood row, the habit picker and the journal icon picker.
- The toolbar stays put. It no longer slides under the window bar when you scroll a long entry.
- The letter card on your shelf has its background back. It had quietly been see through in every single theme.
- Escape closes the sticker drawer instead of leaving it open over your page.
💛 Your diary is safe
This update does not change anything about how your entries are stored. Everything you have already written opens exactly as it was, still encrypted, still only on your computer, still yours. Nothing is uploaded anywhere.
Keep the notes coming. They genuinely shape what gets built next, and it is a joy to read them. Happy writing 🌷
