IKANDY 1.7.1: pick your own name
Pick your own name, MilkDrop imports are back, a newer engine and a stack of fixes.

IKANDY 1.7.1 lets you pick the name other players see, brings MilkDrop .milk imports back, moves IKANDY onto a newer, more stable engine and fixes a stack of things from 1.7.0.
Heads up: the first start after this update can run slowly for a minute or two while IKANDY prepares its graphics for the new engine. After that it runs normally.
Pick your own name
- New players pick their name on the welcome card, with their number shown beside it as they type.
- Already playing? IKANDY asks once each time it starts until you pick one. Not now waits for the next start, and Keep my current name ends the question for good. Setup, PROFILE, Change name works any time.
- Your number and your Author ID never change, and shaders you already saved keep their name.
- A name IKANDY made for you can be replaced at any time. After you pick your own, you can change it again 30 days later.
- The rules: 3 to 16 characters; letters, numbers, spaces and - _ . ' only. The field tells you which rule a name breaks as you type.
- Profile backups made before 1.7.1 still restore your Author ID, then ask you to pick a name.
MilkDrop imports are back
- MilkDrop .milk files import again: most now pass the check, a preset that flashes plays as made (Comfort holds the flashing back), and one that does not react to sound joins your library as ambient, outside the automatic rotation.
- A folder of presets now converts in seconds, and the summary says in plain words why any file was not added.
Imported shaders
- Imported shaders lower their detail by themselves to stay smooth, and stay sharp when the shader itself is not what is slowing things down. Set Detail on the console and your setting is always kept.
- Imported shaders stay sharp in span across several screens, and fill the whole wallpaper in a wallpaper span.
Comfort mode is yours to turn on
- Comfort mode is now off unless you turn it on, in Setup, COMFORT, or with Continue with Comfort mode on at the first start. It no longer switches on by itself from the Windows animation setting.
Fixes
- IKANDY no longer closes by itself when listening to one app's audio fails to start.
- Compute scenes such as Crystal Chandelier and Sierpinski, and WarpField scenes, no longer show a black Live Wallpaper on PCs whose wallpaper runs in standard 8-bit color, as some AMD graphics cards do.
- On setups that mix display scaling, span checks that its window reaches the edge of every screen.
- Listening to one app's audio no longer drops out while IKANDY rebuilds its audio.
- Start-up messages no longer open on top of each other.
- Updated the app's engine (Electron 42.11.10) with upstream stability and security fixes, including crash fixes at quit, on a second launch and when a graphics driver resets.
This release was tested on NVIDIA graphics cards; if something looks wrong on AMD or Intel, please tell us in the Discussions or on Discord. Steam updates you automatically.
If you enjoy IKANDY, the best way to help is to leave a review or tell your friends. Thanks, and take care.
