Companions
Eggs drop from NPC battles, and the enemy type decides the family: eight families of four species, 32 in total. Each egg already shows the species inside, and a long streak without one is compensated automatically. Eggs can be bought and sold for credits in the Market, but companions cannot be traded.
Eggs are hatched with companion points, which build up on their own over time, and your first hatch is free. Points also feed your companions, which level up and evolve twice on the way to the level cap. Spare copies of a species can be merged into another one to speed that up.
Xenobiology. Each family boosts one activity: gathering yield, gathering XP, battling XP, battling credits, crafting XP, crafting scrap, cosmic dust or exploring XP. Every level your companions gain adds to their family's bonus, counting the best copy of each species across your whole collection. It does not apply to dungeons or galaxy bosses.
You can show three companions: a main one, which also floats on your screen and appears on your player card and profile, plus two secondary ones. Dress them with auras, particles, frames, backgrounds and nameplates from the Premium Store, and give them a name of your own. The wiki has all the details.
