D-Coin Devlog

Greetings Humans,

As stated in the last post, there would be a follow-up post about the D-Coin update before the final release post. Well this is it!

The update is about halfway done now. This post will go into more detail about the D-Coin shop and what perks and buffs actually are.

Earning D-Coins

Before we get into spending D-Coins, let's start by talking about how to earn D-Coins in the first place.

So far, the only thing you earn, is a score that adds up, but you can't actually spend it anywhere.

Since your score is a good indication of how well you performed in a round, D-Coins are earned based on it.

The conversion from your score to earned D-Coins is very straightforward at the moment: A score of 100 is equal to 1 D-Coin.

And that's how you'll be able to earn D-Coins! Alternative ways of earning D-Coins are not planned for now, especially things like microtransactions are out of the question.

The shop

Now we're getting to the heart of the update: the shop.

NOTE: The prices are still unbalanced and will likely change before release. The perks section is still at an early stage of development and will also most likely change before release.

Perks

Let's start by having a detailed look at perks.

A perk is a permanent modifier to the player's stats. Once purchased, you'll be able to equip/unequip perks at will. You'll also be able to equip 2 perks simultaneously, combining their stat modifiers.

As shown in the image above, perks can also have negative modifiers. In this example, the perk grants piercing bullets and a higher bullet speed, but decreases the bullet damage. Most perks will have a tradeoff like this, forcing you to choose and combine perks carefully.

NOTE: The ordering of the perk modifiers is pretty messy right now, in the final update the modifiers will be ordered from positive to negative. The perk icons are also not final yet.

Buffs

Let's talk about buffs next.

Buffs are temporary modifiers to the player's stats, as they're only active for the next round.

The price of a buff increases with each additional buff you activate. At the end of a round - regardless of whether you won or lost - all buffs are gone and the price resets.

Buffs are mainly meant to help out the player on difficult modes, in case they got some D-Coins to spare.

How do I access the shop?

A new shop button will be added to the play-panel in order to access the shop right from the main menu.

When will the update release?

Since I am now about halfway done with the update, I got a pretty good idea of how long the remaining features, along with some bug fixes and new Steam achievements will take me to implement.

The update will release mid-to-late October.

There might also be one last post before release, once a specific date and time for release have been selected.

Thank you for playing Devil's Arcade and see you next post!
