Something Spooky Is Coming to Monster Adventure Studio

Since launch, we’ve been listening to creators, watching the games you’re building, and thinking about where MAS should go next. Our goal has always been simple: give developers an approachable, powerful way to create the monster-collecting RPG they’ve always wanted to make—without putting a ceiling on what that game could eventually become.

Yeah, we know, rad.

With our next major update, we’re raising that ceiling quite a bit. Not quite shattering it yet, but most certainly raising it.

Monster Adventure Studio 1.1 is coming soon.

And with Halloween right around the corner, things are getting a little strange around here.

New Monsters Are Lurking...

A new collection of Halloween-themed RTP monsters are joining the built-in MAS library.

We don’t want to spoil all of them just yet, but expect some suitably creepy new friends (or foes if you want them to be) to appear with the update. You'll also get a slew of new parts to use in the Monster Sprite Creator!

Like the rest of the MAS RTP, these monsters are yours to use in your projects, giving you even more content to start building with right out of the box.

Whether you're creating a haunted forest, an abandoned mansion, a gloomy graveyard, or just need something unpleasant lurking in a cave, 1.1 is bringing some new residents, with some new moves!

They may bite, they may stab, you never know around here right?

Anyways, here's one of the new cute homies you'll have around...PUMPLUFF!

More Ways to Build Your Characters

The Character Creator is getting some love, too.

MAS 1.1 will introduce a large batch of new character creation parts, dramatically expanding the number of characters you can build without ever leaving the editor.

More hairstyles. More clothing. More accessories. More options. More combinations. MO' FLAVA'!

One of our biggest goals for MAS is making it possible for developers to establish their own identity instead of feeling locked into a particular look. This is another step toward making every MAS project feel like your game.

And that's not even the coolest part, the coolest part? You can build taller characters in the character creator now, that more resemble a traditional non-creature collecting JRPG.

Monster Adventure Studio Is Learning Japanese!

こんにちは! Last month we brought MAS to Chinese audiences with our rad Chinese localization, our localizing wizards have been cooking and...

Monster Adventure Studio 1.1 will introduce a full Japanese localization, opening MAS to an entirely new community of creators.

This is something we've wanted to do for a while, because we're total weebs, and we're incredibly excited to finally make it happen.

As with the Chinese translation, the Japanese translation will have its logo and store page completely localized in natural lettering to their country. You can also select other country logo to be displayed on launch in your launcher settings if you want! you can actually try it now, it's pretty cool.

Monster-collecting RPGs have a pretty special history in Japan. Thereforeb, ringing the tools we've built to Japanese developers—and seeing what they create with them—feels like a natural next step for MAS.

This is also only the beginning of our localization efforts.

We want Monster Adventure Studio to become a tool creators can use around the world, and we'll have more to share about that journey in the future. We can't wait to see those Japanese flags flying on all the workshop creations!

Japanese launcher art will be revealed and shipped when 1.1 goes live later this month :D

So... About That Other Stuff

There’s more coming in 1.1.

Quite a bit more, actually.

One of the things we love about Monster Adventure Studio is that the editor doesn't have to dictate where your game ultimately goes. That's already the philosophy behind our Godot export support.

Which we're happy to say will be leaving it's BETA status and will be labeled as a permanent stable fixture come 1.1

(Not that it won't continue to be improved, just that we think it's mostly safe now and won't embarrass us when you use it.)

But somewhere along the way, somebody asked a dangerous question:

“Where else could it go?”

We found an answer.

Albeit a much, MUCH, stranger and unexpected answer.

1.1 Will introduce not one, but TWO major features that will absolutely take your game design to new dimensions and new possibilities.

That's all we're saying.

For now.

Consider this the Trick before the Treat.

Some things are better left as surprises that you just log in and you're like "YOMGWTH4RELZIEZ?"

We're going to drop 1.1 like a grenade out of nowhere later this month, so watch your Steam.

1.1 Is Coming Soon

Monster Adventure Studio 1.1 is shaping up to be a substantial free update, and over the coming weeks we hope you let your freak flag fly in MAS, and your creativity go wild.

There are gonna be new monsters to meet.

New characters to create.

New tools to build with.

A whole new group of creators we're excited to welcome.

Monster Adventure Studio 1.1 is coming soon.

We'll show you what we've been up to very soon.

Until then... Stay safe. Stay wild. & Stay true to yourselves homies.

Happy October. 🎃
