Critical Chaos v1.5 / Demo v8.5

Critical Chaos v1.5 / Demo v8.5 Update Core Design Change: Play Your Way

The goal of v1.5 is to keep optional systems optional.

Players who want to focus on story progression, exploration, combat, character building, and equipment collection can now do so without engaging in Crafting, Farming, Fishing, Blackjack, or other side activities.

Players who enjoy those systems will continue to receive additional rewards for investing time into them.

Equipment Progression Reworked

Standard equipment is now obtainable through normal gameplay, shops, and other regular acquisition methods.

Crafting is no longer required to access standard gear.

Crafting now serves as an enhancement system for supported equipment:

Base → +1 → +2 → +3

Upgrade bonuses vary by equipment type:

  • +1: ~5% stat increase
  • +2: ~10% stat increase + 1 additional Essence slot
  • +3: ~20% stat increase + 2 additional Essence slots

Players can now choose between using equipment as acquired or investing additional resources to improve it.

Crafting Expansion & Simplification

The equipment database has been expanded with additional Smithing and Artificing upgrade paths.

Changes include:

  • Smithing and Artificing now use fixed equipment-based upgrade paths.
  • Valid Smithing and Artificing recipes have a 100% success rate.
  • Required materials and tools are clearly defined.
  • Crafting progression is more consistent across equipment types.

Cooking Changes:

  • All valid Cooking recipes now have a fixed 95% success rate.
  • Raw and cooked fish provide permanent character-growth bonuses.

Guns & Essence Removed From Crafting

Guns and Essence are no longer part of the Artificing system.

Guns:

  • No longer crafted.
  • Obtained through normal progression.

Essence:

  • Remains a core customization mechanic.
  • No longer tied to Crafting progression.

This reduces recipe complexity and removes unnecessary crafting branches.

Chosen Weapons Reworked

Chosen weapon upgrades are no longer handled through Smithing.

Changes:

  • Chosen progression is now a standalone system.
  • Upgrades use Ikon Dust consumables.
  • Crafting is no longer required for Chosen weapon progression.

Optional Activities Remain Optional

The following systems remain entirely optional:

  • Mining
  • Foraging
  • Fishing
  • Cooking
  • Smithing
  • Artificing
  • Blackjack
  • Other side activities

These systems now provide additional rewards for players who engage with them without blocking core RPG progression.

Blackjack:

  • Fixed buy-in amount.
  • No adjustable wagering.
  • Rewards Guild Tokens instead of direct gold payouts.

v1.5 separates core progression from optional systems.

Players can now complete the game's main progression path without Crafting or participating in side activities, while optional systems provide additional upgrades, bonuses, and rewards for players who choose to engage with them.
