Everything, Everywhere, All At Once
Dearest Dressmakers,
I have seen much in my years of hovering among those who would call themselves game developers. I am fortunate to have sharp eyes, excellent hearing, and a penchant for a bit of ESP that make me particularly well suited to spilling tea. And yet none of these experiences would have prepared me for the week that has passed.
What was described as a "niche" game has gotten some of the biggest publicity that this writer has ever seen. From Tiktok to Twitter, from Instagram to Facebook groups (I saw with my own eyes that those still exist), from gaming publications to French national television to disgruntled gamers claiming that their favourite extraction shooter might be a dead game now that a girly game is beating it out in the number of players, Dressmaker has been the talk of the town. The internet has been flooded with colour, sparkle and trim, with dressmakers of all ages and genders connecting with their inner creative soul.
And while we would love to celebrate, we have also found ourselves as unprepared for these events as one holding an umbrella before a tsunami. In simpler times our devs could chat with playtesters and also read through all of the bug reports themselves, but in these Post Launch times there are so many new posts, bug reports and suggestions that our devs have been banned strongly discouraged from Discord community chatter to protect their poor, weary souls. Plucky as this little team may be, they still have only about 1.5 programmers and only so many hours in a day.
Fear not, however! Wheels have been put into motion to lighten the load and improve communication around bug reports and suggestions posthaste! But until our new team is up to speed, we ask for your patience as we get through the tsunami the only way that any person can face an intimidating task: one drop at a time.
Aspiring to be more dressmaker than stressmaker,
Team Dressmaker
