This character is a close friend of Lin Ye from his days abroad. She can speak Chinese, but with an accent—and finding a voice actor who could pull that off was no easy task; it took a lot of time and effort.
For Chapter 5: Specially Hired Western Chef, most of it consists of dialogue-driven scenes, so I tried out a slideshow-style narrative commonly used in Western visual novels. It's a bit of an experimental approach for me. Once the main content is finished, I plan to use this format for some of the scenes in the Gentleman's Magazine segment as well.
This update comes more than two months after the last one. On one hand, it coincided with summer break—when the kids are home, parents get busy, and unfortunately, my game-dev time got drastically cut. On the other hand, this update is bigger than before: new characters, new settings, new storylines—and all the technical hiccups that come with them, which were a real mixed bag.
Still, I'm glad I managed to get this update out before the month ended. Last night, while I was working on it, I suddenly got a nosebleed—scared me half to death!! I thought I was about to drop dead from exhaustion.😲 I've been pulling way too many all-nighters this month, so I really need to take a couple of days off.
Summer break is almost over, which means my production efficiency should pick back up—thank goodness.
