Community Update #14 - Frequently Asked Questions!
Hi everyone 👋
Hope you're all good! We're gearing up towards launch on October 9th and here is a quick round of frequently asked questions (and our answers) to give you a better overview on Truckful.
15 Most Frequently Asked Questions about Truckful
1. So what is Truckful?
Truckful is a single-player delivery adventure where you drive an old pickup truck through seemingly peaceful valleys, complete errands for villagers and gradually uncover the mystery surrounding a nearby ancient forest. It blends cozy exploration, physics-based cargo deliveries, and narrative adventure rather than being a traditional trucking simulator.
2. Is it open world?
Not quite. Truckful features a large interconnected valley with multiple regions, shortcuts, hidden roads, and exploration. Think of it as a semi-open world: new routes become accessible as your truck gains upgrades, encouraging discovery instead of one massive sandbox.
3. How does cargo work?
Every delivery is physics-driven. You manually pack items into your truck bed, and their shape, weight, and fragility matter. A stack of wooden crates behaves differently from a delicate porcelain vase, so careful loading is just as important as careful driving.
4. Can I upgrade my pickup?
Sure thing! Your truck evolves throughout the adventure with upgrades that improve performance and unlock new traversal possibilities, including:
- Increased cargo capacity
- Better handling and mobility
- Cosmetic paint jobs
- Special equipment like boosters, sticky cargo, and water-crossing upgrade (snorkle)
- Functional improvements earned through exploration and missions
5. What's the deal with the forest?
The forest is the heart of the story. Local legends warn everyone to stay away, villagers talk about strange events and your deliveries slowly reveal what happened there. The mystery unfolds through characters, exploration, and environmental storytelling rather than jump-scare horror.
6. Is the Ghost Truck an enemy?
Yes, however it's more of a recurring hazard to evade, rather than a boss to face. The Ghost Truck appears during certain sequences, creating tense chases and forcing quick decisions. Recent updates made these encounters less punishing: getting hit no longer immediately restarts the level and players can still pick up any lost cargo trying to escape the Ghost Truck.
7. Do I need to always drive carefully, or can I go full speed?
Usually you can go for both - we encourage players to find their own rhytm and pick truck upgrades in whatever order they prefer. More speed helps with timed deliveries, but rough terrain, sharp turns, and bumps can send your cargo flying. The game constantly asks you to balance efficiency versus stability, making each route a small driving puzzle.
8. Who are the villagers?
The valley is filled with memorable residents, including mechanics, scrapyard owners, bar hosts, hotel staff, and other mysterious locals to meet. We don't want to spill the beans on all of them and encourage players to get to know them better as they pack many stories about the countryside and its tangled history. They aren't just quest givers - they provide upgrades, reveal lore, and gradually connect the pieces of the larger mystery.
9. How scrap works and why should I collect it?
Scrap is a second progression currency. Money comes from deliveries, scrap is earned by discovering abandoned machinery and recyclable objects scattered around the valley. Bring it to Red's Scrapyard to convert them into upgrade materials.
10. What kinds of environments will I drive through?
Expect much more than simple country roads. Truckful will feature:
- Quiet towns
- Dense forest areas
- Marshes, wetlands, swamps and other 'no-go' areas
- Tunnels and caves
- A Scrapyard
- Dusty hills and other abandoned regions
Each region introduces different navigation challenges and hidden secrets - we want players to explore, rather than just uncheck a list of question marks scattered around the map.
11. What if I get lost?
You can surely get lost and that's all good, as long as you keep your cargo and know how to use a handful of navigational help to use. Full game includes a 'multi-tool' notebook with a map, objectives tracker and found collectibles. There are also save shrines, making exploration much more intuitive while still rewarding curiosity. Hidden paths often lead to useful shortcuts or valuable discoveries as well - we want to give players comfort of getting lost and then finding the way again!
12. Can I customize the truck's appearance?
Absolutely. Besides mechanical upgrades, you'll be able to repaint your pickup with multiple color options, with additional visual customization planned including ornaments and stickers. Your truck gradually becomes your own signature vehicle.
13. Is Truckful more relaxing or challenging?
Most of the game feels cozy: scenic drives, friendly villagers, and satisfying deliveries. But difficult terrain, physics-based cargo, supernatural encounters, and environmental hazards create moments of genuine tension without turning the game into a demanding survival horror. Encounters with enemies are based on evasion (similar to Dredge) and our goal was to have the best of both worlds when it comes to gameplay difficulty.
14. Can I run over the sheep or other animals?
And the award for probably most repeated question goes to... you guessed it! ;D You won't be able to run over the sheep (or boars) but there is one specific upgrade allowing you to do almost that. We leave the rest to your discovery but its a pretty obvious one.
15. Will it run well on Steam Deck and lower-end PCs?
We have specifically optimized performance for Linux-based handhelds and lower-end hardware, including the Steam Deck as we're all avid fans of Valve's device. We aim to have Truckful verified on launch but even if there's a hiccup with the green tick, you can expect a +40/60fps during most scenes. As for other lower-end devices, 30fps and high details should easily be achievable on specs mentioned in the official requirements section - we're always doing our best to support as many players as possible.
That's it for now but feel free to post your own questions below in the comments - we're more than happy to reply, no spoilers of course! 🗪
