v1.0.3 is out ❤︎

Madhearts was released last week, and we're proud and excited about the results: more than 150 accounts were created, and over 800 matches were played!

So, first and foremost: thank you.

In the grand scheme of things, these numbers may look tiny, but we also know we haven't put much into marketing. For us, they're genuinely revealing and exciting.

On top of that, our most prolific players have spoken: quality of life is where Madhearts needs the most work, especially when it comes to the new player experience.

Because of that, we'll be focusing this release - and the next few - on making those first matches as seamless as possible, without forcing everyone through a boring tutorial.

Changes

  • Reworked the UI for inspecting other players during a match.
  • Added the ability to see the tier of other players' shops each round.
  • Removed a confusing UI element that displayed the player's income.
  • Improved a bunch of particles and sound effects, including lethal, freeze, barrier, and more.
  • Added a particle effect when upgrading the Shop, making the Slot Machine shine brighter and the upgrade more obvious.
  • Added a sound effect when hovering over a unit in the shop or during combat.
  • Added camera shake to some interactions, along with an option to turn it off in the settings.
  • Changed how music is ordered during matches. Previously, tracks played in a predefined order; now, each match shuffles them, so you'll hear more of the soundtrack.
  • Removed synergy highlights from some heroes where they didn't make much sense. (E.g. Zee.)
  • Fixed some gnarly crashes affecting players on specific versions of Windows.
  • Fixed the leaderboards displaying players with a win rate of zero or lower.
  • Removed match count from the leaderboards. They now only display placement and win rate.

What's next

For the next few patches, we plan to keep improving the overall feel of the game.

We want better UI, more juice, and, most importantly, a much smoother experience for new players. We know Madhearts can feel obvious once it "clicks," but getting to that point isn't as seamless as it should be.

That's a wrap, folks!

See you in Paradise!
