Loki's Revenge is out of Early Access - 1.0 live NOW!

It's official - Loki's Revenge is now out of Early Access and 1,0 is now live!

Content-wise, 1.0 has a few minor bug fixes and tweaks compared to the last patch. I know that's not necessarily what you'd expect from a 1.0 release after being in Early Access, but I'll explain my reasoning below if you care. If not, then enjoy the game for what it is and I appreciate you playing!

I am now considering the game done and will officially be moving on to other games. If you're not aware, I am a solo developer working on games part-time. I started working on Loki's Revenge back in late 2023 and have been periodically updating it ever since.

The truth is that it was way over-scoped for what I could realistically do on my own in my free time. It was never a passion project - it was something I thought I could make with my skills and would resonate well with people. While I've grown as a developer, that growth has also made me realize that I do not want to spend more time working on this game.

Frankly speaking, it has not sold well at all. I don't know if I've even broken even on direct costs, nevermind the time I've spent on it. The opportunity cost of continuing to update this game VS work on new games is pretty high. So financially speaking, I can't justify continuing to work on this. Personally and creatively, there are so many other game ideas I have that I want to make, but I can't allow myself to spend that time on them while this game isn't finished. I don't want to have that guilt hanging over me any more. Perhaps this is all too personal, but I don't care - this is who I want to be as a developer. Life is too short to be inauthentic.

So, I have decided to call it done and scope the game down. It's now 1 map, 4 characters, a bunch of achievements and options. I personally don't actually like games that have endless content and can be played forever. I feel that those games become 2nd jobs and don't respect your time. I much prefer something I can play and finish in 1-2 sessions. There are so many games out there! Trying to squeeze the most "value" out of 1 game just doesn't make sense to me. So I don't want to be inauthentic as a developer and make things I don't even like or wouldn't want to play myself.

Thank you very much to everyone who has played the game, given feedback, said kind words, told friends about it, etc. - it all means very much to me. I hope you will be excited to play what I make next.

Thank you - OWL
