DEVPOST3: 1.0 RELEASE
We have officially released Snow War to 1.0! This means we are taking it out of Early Access, and this is the stable 1.0 release.
So soon?
Our initial plan was to work on the Early Access a bit more. However, we have not had proper visibility yet, resulting in just 33 sales up to now, while we had 4000+ wishlists. Snow War is a hobby project for us and we did not aim to earn any big money out of it, but at this point we have to adjust our effort slightly.
We are moving the game out of Early Access today with one new feature: Localization. For now, the game is available in English and German, Finnish will follow later this month.
Snow War is a game meant to be played with your friends. To enable this, we lowered the price of the game to $3,99, with sale prices going way below this. Our hope is that more people will find the game enjoyable and maybe share the experience with their friends.
What does this mean for the future?
We did not want to keep the game in Early Access for too long, making it seem like there is more content to come than what we can actually deliver. We believe the core experience is already 99% there. When it comes to additional maps, development would be too costly for the current player base. This will obviously change if the base grows.
So: we will continue working on the game, but we will also work on other things. Snow War is in a stable state. Server infrastructure is very light to host, with minimal costs for us now. Luckily none of the other IT-sector cost hikes have hit us on this one!
You also have to option to host your own games, for your friends and foes. To help with that, we will release the dedicated server later this year as well. This is already working, but we want to setup a UI for it to spare you the trouble of having to fiddle around with config files.
