Gathering Efficiencies

We're picking up where we left off with the Gathering Efficiencies proposals! In case you missed it, you can check out the other changes we've previously released from that blog here, here andhere.

In priortising this year's Summer Sweep-Up, these changes are coming out much later than we would have liked and we really appreciate your patience! The remaining Gathering Efficiencies changes, including stackable net traps, are still on our list and will be released as soon as we have space for them in our weekly update schedule.

Now let's dive into the Gathering QoL improvements that have made their way into Gielinor with this update!

Daeyalt Shard & Essence Improvements

Let's start with potentially the most-awaited improvement among the bunch...

Celestial Signet's and Celestial Ring's Mining enhancer effect now applies to Daeyalt Shards, giving players a 1 in 10 chance to receive double the amount of Daeyalt Shards on a successful Mining action.

In the original proposal blog, we mentioned that wearing the Celestial Signet would grant an additional +1 Daeyalt Shard on a successful Mining action. However, during development, we decided it would only make sense for the effect to apply to the Celestial Ring as well, allowing players who haven't yet upgraded to the Celestial Signet to also benefit from it. Furthermore, for balancing and consistency purposes, we went with giving a chance to receive double the amount of Shards instead, as that is how these two items behave elsewhere.

Likewise, you can now claim noted Daeyalt Essence when converting their respective shards. This applies to all account types, but mostly benefits the UIM players among you, since they can't interact with Daeyalt Essence.

You can activate this toggle by speaking to Noranna Tytanin in Daeyalt Essence Mine, where you can choose whether to collect the Daeyalt Essences as noted in your inventory, or have them sent straight to your bank. On the other side of the coin, UIMs will always receive the Daeyalt Essences in their inventory, but they can choose whether they're received as noted or unnoted via this toggle.

Poison Dynamite with Only 1 Nightshade

Onto another highly-awaited change for the Broccoli Poison Dynamite...

Creating Poison Dynamite now requires only 1 Nightshade or Cave Nightshade instead of 3, helping make it a little easier to sustain.

Log Basket Interaction with Deadfall and Pitfall Traps

You can now construct Deadfall and Pitfall traps using logs that are stored in your Log Basket.

This change alleviates the extra step of having to withdraw logs from your Log Basket and streamlines the process. Logs in your inventory will still be consumed first, but you can now stock up at the bank in advance and chill out a little more rather than racing between respawns for trees while you're investigating a rumour!

Compost State Indicator

On our Official Client (including mobile), we've added a visual indicator to farming patches that show whether they've been composted, and which tier of compost has been used. This means you can now check your compost status at a glance, without needing to use the 'Inspect' option on the patch! There are already RuneLite plugins that do this, and now players on other clients have also been brought up to speed.

  • C displaying it's composted
  • U for Ultracompost
  • S for Supercompost
  • E indicating that it isn't composted (empty)

This feature is a toggle in the Settings menu under the Activities tab: "Farming compost overlay". You can also choose your preferred colour for the visual indicator.

Campfire at the Nex Bank Area

This is one that especially UIM would be pleased about: You can now light a fire at the Nex bank area, allowing you to cook food so you can prepare for the Nex fight adequately.

Player-Named Puppies

On September 11th, we hosted acharity livestream to celebrate the release of our dog quest, A Ruff Situation. During the stream, we raised money for Alveus Sanctuary, with giveaways unlocking on our Discord as we hit certain donation milestones.

Two of these giveaways entailed very good prizes about very good bois: the chance for 12 winners to name an in-game puppy at the Dog Shelter! With this game update, those names are officially going live.

Here are the winners and the puppies they've named:

  • @S A N S on Discord: Smoky
  • @Cobacus on Discord: Zoey
  • @Era on Discord: Blaze
  • @Zach on Discord: Loot
  • @Benascor on Discord: Timber

Pirate Rum Rebellion - Community-organised Casual PvP Event: Saturday, September 26th

Before we sign off, if any of you are in the mood for bloodstained blades and salty sea air this Saturday, some of our community organisers (the same ones responsible for Wizard Wars, Clash of Clerics, and a plethora of other Zamorak vs. Saradomin-themed events) have put together a seaward scenario for you this Saturday! No sign-ups, no requirements (though we'd recommend a boat for the full experience), no faff, just some costume suggestions and some silly PvP fun!

If you want to keep up-to-date or learn a little more, you can check out this thread in the official OSRS Discord or this handy infographic made by the organisers which includes the full route map, costume suggestions, and death mechanics!

The Customs Officers at Port Sarim have cracked down hard on rum smuggling from Karamja, and the local pirates are none too pleased. You can side with the pirates and set sail from Karamja, or with 'the navy' and set sail from Witchhaven, culminating in a clash on the docks of Port Sarim. Bring your best pirate/naval officer attire (some low-cost suggestions are included in the infographic linked above) and get stuck in to some silly RP PvP this Saturday, 26th September at 18:00 UTC on World 392, we'll see you there!

Also as a reminder, if you're already a part of the Official OSRS Discord server then you can check out the #event-news channel and see a whole slew of community events ranging from PvP, PvM masses, minigames, everything you'd expect! We'd thoroughly recommend checking it out if you're looking for more communal experiences to break up the grind!
