What still needs a workaround when you switch to Linux

Does it run on Linux? answers that question for the game itself. This page answers it for everything else that’s open while you play — the overlay, the peripheral software, the fan curve, the mod manager. A library that runs perfectly is not the same as a setup that does.

Nothing here is Sifter’s own rating. Each row states a fact — native, a named community replacement, running under Wine, degraded, or no route at all — and never “should work.”

Store clients / launchers

Runs under Wine

EA app, Ubisoft Connect, Battle.net, GOG Galaxy, Rockstar, Epic

No native Linux client exists for any of them. Sifter itself launches these titles directly; Heroic, Lutris and Bottles run the vendor's own client under Wine when a Sifter connector doesn't yet. This is the one category Sifter already answers.

Named replacements: Heroic Games Launcher, Lutris, Bottles

Vendor overlays and capture

Community replacement

GeForce Experience / NVIDIA App / ShadowPlay, AMD ReLive, Xbox Game Bar

Windows only, all of them. OBS Studio is native and is the genuine replacement for capture; MangoHud is the native performance overlay. There is no native replacement for one-key instant replay — that loss is real and stays stated plainly, not smoothed over.

Named replacements: OBS Studio, MangoHud

Peripheral and RGB software

Community replacement

Logitech G HUB, Razer Synapse, Corsair iCUE, SteelSeries GG, Elgato Stream Deck app

Windows/macOS only, all of them. Community drivers cover a lot and not everything — coverage is per device, never per vendor: a vendor's mouse DPI setting being covered says nothing about whether that same vendor's headset RGB is.

Coverage varies by device — there is no single verdict for this category.

Named replacements: OpenRGB, libratbag / Piper, OpenRazer, ckb-next, headsetcontrol

Fan curves, tuning, monitoring

Community replacement

MSI Afterburner + RivaTuner, Armoury Crate, iCUE fan control

Windows only. CoreCtrl and LACT cover GPU tuning, lm-sensors plus fancontrol cover fan curves, and MangoHud covers the overlay half of Afterburner.

Named replacements: CoreCtrl, LACT, lm-sensors, fancontrol, MangoHud

Mod managers

Runs under Wine

Vortex, Mod Organizer 2

No native builds; both run under Wine/Proton with per-game setup. Limo and r2modman are native, per-ecosystem alternatives where the ecosystem supports them. This is the hardest row here, because a modded game is exactly the library a player will not abandon.

Named replacements: Limo, r2modman

Voice and community

Native on Linux

Discord, TeamSpeak

Native clients exist and work. The in-game overlay does not — that is the part players notice, and it is a real gap even though the client itself is fine.

Controller and headset utilities

No Linux route

Xbox Accessories (Elite paddle remaps), DualSense firmware updater

Windows only. Steam Input covers remapping for anything launched through Steam. Firmware updates have no Linux route at all — that is a genuine dead end, not a workaround waiting to be found.

VR

Degraded on Linux

SteamVR, Meta Link

SteamVR on Linux exists and is degraded. Meta Link is Windows only. Stated as unsupported rather than partial — nothing here reaches parity with the Windows experience.

This is a starting inventory, not a verified corpus — several rows will have moved by the time you read them. Sifter puts every game you own in one library and launches any of it. Get the app.
