A big battle, whenever you want one
Old War Together is a stylized third-person World War II shooter built around large battles with bots. Two armies of up to 100 soldiers are already fighting when you arrive: pick a spawn on the map, pick a kit and deploy. When you die, you are back on the map in seconds, choosing where to go in next. Play the whole thing alone at your own pace, or bring your friends into the same fight.
Three ways to fight
- Grand Battle — the whole Normandy map, from the beach below the bunker line through the farms and crossroads to the town. Hold the flags to bleed the enemy's tickets, with tanks, planes and paratroopers across the entire front.
- Urban Warfare — infantry fighting house to house through the streets of a Normandy town. No flags: deploy in or around the town, and the side that runs out of reinforcements first loses.
- Haunted — a handful of haunts hunt with blades, faster than any human, and every soldier who falls joins them. Humans get one life: survive until the clock runs out.
Before a match you choose the length, time limit, weather, bots per team, bot difficulty from Recruit to Elite, friendly fire, vehicles, and which classes are allowed.
Kits and vehicles
- A kit for every role. Rifleman, Assault, Support, Sniper, Anti-Tank, Paratrooper, Tanker, Driver and Pilot, each with its own weapons on both sides of the front. Drop your weapon and take another from a fallen soldier.
- A motor pool at the flags. Scout cars, trucks and half-tracks, Shermans and Panzers, fighters and transport planes, with seats for a whole crew. Planes take off from and land on real airstrips, and paratroopers can jump from a transport and steer their canopy down anywhere on the map.
Bots that fight like an army
Bots flank, suppress, take cover, throw grenades, drive tanks, fly planes and parachute in, and they get sharper as you raise the difficulty. A compass on your HUD shows where the fighting is, and you spawn facing it, so the next firefight is never far away.
Movement and feel
Sprint, slide into cover, vault low walls, lean around corners, go prone, and swim across the rivers and the sea. Every weapon has its own recoil, and the camera reacts to landings, explosions and hits. Keys are fully rebindable, a field training course teaches every mechanic in a few minutes, and a photo mode lets you hide the HUD and fly the camera to capture the moment.
Rank up
Every match ends with a battle report. Climb 50 levels and 12 ranks from Private to Colonel, earn bronze, silver and gold in eight medals, unlock new soldiers for both armies, and customize your profile card.
Make it your own
Build your own battlefield in the map editor: sculpt terrain, rivers and roads from scratch, or add props, flags and spawns on top of Normandy, then test it with bots. Share maps and mods on the Steam Workshop — custom game modes written in Lua, weapon, vehicle and prop packs, sounds, textures, emblems and HUD themes — and subscribed items install with one click.
Solo, or with friends
Play everything alone against bots, or host a Steam lobby — public, friends-only or private with a password — and bring up to 16 players into the same battle, on the same team or on opposite sides, with bots filling out both armies. The host sets the match for everyone.
