Everyone said the case was closed. Everyone except the victims’ families.

All 227 people affiliated with the Church of the Nine-Tentacled Octopus drowned during one of its religious rituals. A year after the case was closed, the victims’ families insist the investigation reached the wrong conclusion—and demand that the case be reopened.

As a religious studies researcher at a government agency, reexamine the Church’s doctrines and rituals, along with the records left by those connected to the case.
