About this game

The developer's description, from the game's Steam store page.

“If nobody notices, it’s art history.”

You are Vince Lang. Ten years of painting, and not one person ever stopped to look. Now you move fine art for a living.

One rule at this company: never leave a single scratch.

But hands slip. And the moment they do, you’re hundreds of millions of dollars in the hole. Which is why this company keeps a tradition, passed down for generations.

Paint over it. Make it never happened.

The clock gives you 180 seconds. Take up the brush with shaking hands and fill in what the tear took away. There is never enough time — it was built that way. (On days you would rather take your time, Solo Practice lets you set the clock to unlimited.)

There is no eyedropper. Five pigments are all you get. Read what is left of the original with your own eyes, mix it on the palette, and make that color yourself. This is not a contest of who paints well — it is a contest of who sees color.

This is not a drawing tool. There is no undo either. It is not a place to finish a tidy painting — it is a contest of how well you can cover it up with the little time and the few tools you are given. If it feels too hard, you can ask a colleague for help — color mixing or an undercoat — and keep going.

Works you have seen in textbooks, every one a high-resolution scan of the genuine, public-domain original. What you set your brush to is no replica, no copy — it is art history itself.

Your work is machine-scored against the original as a match rate (%), and a heatmap lays bare exactly where you slipped. After inspection, “original,” “just after the accident,” and “your restoration” sit side by side. A good fix begs to be shown off. A terrible one — you’ll want to show that off even more.

A finished restoration can be published to “Everyone’s Works.” Other players’ pieces hang on the same wall, you can replay their brushwork from the very first stroke, and you can take on the same painting with the same tear yourself. You can also export an image or a video and share it on social media.

A run takes three minutes. There are six ways to play.

  • Story — The tale of a fine-art courier. Ten chapters.
  • Endless — Restore one painting after another until it is game over. You pick the next one yourself, off a branching map.
  • Daily — The same subject for everyone, changing every day. Beat the other players and climb the leagues.
  • Events — Featured exhibitions held for a limited run, with subjects you can only take on while they are open.
  • Versus — Make a room and play online, up to 4 players. Everyone restores the same painting at the same time.
  • Solo Practice — You choose the painting, the difficulty and where the tear falls. The clock can be set to unlimited.

Every restoration is scored on match rate, and depending on the mode and your settings it goes onto a worldwide ranking. There is always a reason to come back.
